Ladies, Do It Right and Do It In Style !

All this while, whenever I see fashion being wronged, I do not say anything to the other. I only crib to myself and now, to my husband. :P

He then started calling me The Fashion Nazi.

Today, I write to you about a thing, that interests almost every female!

Fashion & Style.

Everyone has their own definition for it.
1.
“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” — Lauren Hutton
2.
“I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence.” — Yves Saint Laurent
3.
“Fashion changes, but style endures.” - Coco Chanel
4.
“Why change? Everyone has his own style. When you have found it, you should stick to it.” – Audrey Hepburn

And so on…

But, what is more important is how you define it!
It is right to say that everyone is unique and have their own style!
But, there are certain things.. which you may be doing the wrong way.

This time around, I’d go step by step and talk about The Must Haves, The Don’ts and The Do’s.
I’ve had immense pleasure in interviewing two lovely ladies whom I’ve known in close quarters, and who are doing exceptionally well in their respective fields. I feel proud in being associated with them.

Firstly, I had the privilege to interview Nidhi Uttam , who has starred in serials like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus) , Ek Boond Ishq (LifeOk) , Maayka ( Zee TV) and Many more! She’s a combination of beauty, talent, grace! Not many people know this for a fact that her even before she stepped into the television industry, she had a long list of people who were her fans and adored her. Yes! She was the best athlete of our school & our house! And, also the Games Captain. She’s multi – talented and she’s making Our City ( Kanpur) & Our School ( St. Mary’s Convent ) so proud!

Me: Thank you so much Nidhi Dee, for taking out few minutes from your busy schedule to answer a few questions of mine. So many people admire you and try to follow that style you have set, but what does style mean to you?

Nidhi Dee:

Style for me is what I believe in. The clothes that I wear should suit my body structure and I should be able to carry it off with ease. I am not dictated by fashion masters telling me, “You should wear this, because it is in trend.” Every individual should just go out there and wear what suits your personality. There’s much more to life than just following trends.I believe in being my self! :) :D

Me: Would you be generous and share a few of your 'the must haves in your bag' when you're on the go, with the readers, so that all those who want to be more like you could get some help.

Nidhi Dee:

In my bag I always carry a eye kajal,
Mac studio fix,
lipbalm,
moisturizer,
one nude lipcolour, sanitizer,
a small perfume bottle,
tissues ,
small water bottle is a must!

The second person I interviewed for this blog post was Emcee Aisha Ghani , the most talented Anchor/Emcee/Host in town who’s gone international too! She’s also a presenter and a copywriter. She has an excellent command over languages, the looks, the style and an amazing dress sense! To top it all.. she’s a good friend & the love we share for each other is mutual J who better than her, to be interviewed for this blog post dedicated to fashion & style!?

Me: Aisha, you have been seen adorning evening gowns, chic casuals, lehengas, saarees, anarkalis, dresses, all so wonderfully. Each you match with a different look and style. A lot of it is for the kind of gig you’re hosting. When it comes down to being who you are in personal life, what is your style mantra?

Aisha:

Thanks love!
Well,on the personal front I like to keep it pretty simple but chic. Like a classic white shirt with denims, a high ponytail with kohled eyes and clear skin never goes out of fashion.  Likewise,I love attires that flatters my feminity. So a cute frilled or lace top does the trick. Even long flowing dresses with summer prints are so comfy yet so chic n elegant and mostly every Indian girl can carry it with much grace according to their body shape.
Also accessories can instantly boost up the entire but never over do it.

Me: Could you share with our readers a few of your wardrobe must-haves?

Aisha:

As the fashion ritual goes, an LBD (low black dress) with crimson lips makes you a diva, instantly and is an absolute must have.

Long skirts are a respite always without much efforts.  Team it up with cute floral top or just tuck it in and there you go,to conquer the world

Summers are all about playing up with colors. Cool pastel colors are in trend this season. Beige, cyan and other pastel colors are in vogue

Since I love to keep it feminine, I have a gud collection of long ankle length flowy dresses in different prints. Palazzo's are again to count upon!

Skin and hair makes a huge difference.  A Lil touch up goes a long way. So little concealer,  a BB cream, some kohl to intensify those big beautiful eyes and nude and pale lip color can do it just right. Always remember to cover your neck and other revealing areas to look even toned and natural.

Crop tops are in huge trend. There are multiple ways it can used for different occasions. Crop top+ High waist skirt= Fashionista (you can play with colors in this)
Crop top + high waist slim fit jeans.
Crop top + palazzo (you can also tuck in it)

Thank You Lovely Ladies! Your contribution has made this blog post really special for me.

Now, I’d list down a couple of my ‘must haves’ too! ;) :D

1.      A Pair of Denims :

Ladies, Love Your Curves! because, that is what makes you! :)

2.      Pallazo Pants / Skirt :

[ You can team it up with, Kurtas , Long Tops , Ganjees & Tee-Shirts could be tucked in.]

(Anu teams up a plain white shirt kurti with a printed pallazo)

3.      White Kurti / Shirt

4.      Black Dress / Black Shirt / Black Anything!! [ p.s.I love black ;) ]

5.      Scarves

[ Anupriya sports a casual look of rugged jeans teamed up with a scarf round her neck]

6.      Plain Saarees with Border

7.      Golden/Silver/Black Blouse

8.      That Set Of Clothes You’d Never Let Go! [ you’re most comfortable in ]

Baggy Tees , Denim Shorts, Pj's whatever that may be!

9.      Kajal & Red Lipstick / Pink Gloss

10.  Pumps / Ballerinas

11.  Desi Juttis

12.  Traditional Jhumkas

13.  Funky Accessories & Fancy Handbags

14.  Aviators / Wayfarers

15.  Baby Lips/ Fruity Shine/ Vaseline

[ My Aim In Life Is To Never Be Stereotyped! , that’s why I wear everything from shorts-jeans-churidars-leggings-pants-skirts-shirts-kurtis-suits-saarees-dressess-jumpsuits-tees and damn you! Carry them off with ease! Irrespective of the fact that I’m a broad body type :) ]
The mantra is : to be confident in yourself, and not be conscious. There is nothing more attractive than a confident woman, who knows she looks good and doesn’t need someone’s approval !

There are some Don’ts when you are in the process of setting your own style! Whacky fashion statements, only when made by Lady Gaga are accepted by few. Rest, are just mocked! [ truth]

A.     Full length leggings (churidars) are not the same as Jeggings,3/4th Leggings or Jeans!
(do not pair it with Tees or Tops! Leggings are best with Kurti’s.)

B.      Overly tight jeans!
( too bad!)

C.      Too much of a skin show!
( you do not need to expose yourself to look appealing. Not at all. )

D.     When your bra strap peeks out!
( it’s recently catching up on net now-a-days “My bra strap shows, so what?” , I abhor this trend! There was a time when guys wore low waist jeans and their Jockey or Calvin Klein would show, how we react then? So, why is it okay if your bra strap shows? Seriously, we all wear undergarments : we just don’t need to declare it to the world ! it’s not at all classy, girls! )
Instead, wear a strapless bra under your off-one-shoulder top and rather wear a spaghetti top underneath it. Still better than the bra strap!

E.       Wearing similar print top and lowers!
( floral top/shirt and floral jeggings/pallazo : Epic Fail. Have you just bloomed into a flower? )
( team up prints with plains!)

F.       Not keeping colour combination in mind!
( always choose colours according to your skin tone! Take those shades which brighten you! Also, whenever matching it with a lower/pant/legging/pallazo/skirt : keep it in combination. Go for contrast, only if you can carry it without being conscious! )

G. Wearing Platform heel rubber slippers beneath a dress!
( total spoiler -_- Lady where is the poise of the dress? If not yours! )

H. Wearing a long sheer top with a short chemise or even better, no chemise at all !
( Dress classy. I repeat. Dress Classy )

I. Over Dressing / Under Dressing!
( Dress accordingly. Wherever you are: the place, crowd, occasion. )

J. Not dressing according to your size!
( Short heighted girls are not recommended to wear floor length Anarkalis, Horizontal stripes.
Healthy girls should not wear loose tops, kurtas and should choose navy blue, blacks, browns, dark gray for lowers. Also, tie a waist band, belt aroud your waist/slimmest part of the body to accentuate your body shape )

K. Wearing too much around your neck along with big earings.
( what did I say girls? Concentration at one point! Either big ear rings coupled with an empty neck/ just a chain or, small ear rings along with something funky/dressy/big/heavy around your neck)

Make Up Tips :

*Your make up should be sober.
*Remember, minimal make up highlights You!
*Foundation should be selected according to your skin tone.
*Match the foundation to your neck, not your cheeks.
*Use a concealer to hide pimple marks, spots, scars.
*DO NOT use foundation and then go on to apply a face powder too. It dims the brightness of your face! or may even make you look extra white.
[ When using it, the quantity should be kept in mind. ]
*Focus on one part of your face; that would be highlighted.
*When dolling up your eyes in full swing, team it up with a sober shade of gloss or lipstick.

Feminism & its origins

Writing on an issue like this, I was really skeptical; not knowing how it would be perceived. But I felt that it is high time that we get into the depths of this frequently used term, ‘Feminism’. To understand any movement, it is only smart to get to know why and how it came into existence Let’s acknowledge the fact that from ages the fibers of patriarchy have been woven into the fabric of human consciousness and consciously or unconsciously we all fell prey to it. It was and sometimes is, male dominated, identified and centered. It got so deep rooted that even the most basic of rights were not made available to women and they were okay with not having the same. The list of some of those might shock you. It took a century for women to be able to hold property on the same terms as men, serve on a jury, to cast votes, apply for bank loan, become an accountant or a lawyer, report marital rape, get equal pay (which still is a long way from equal!), get a safe abortion or bu...

"O Stigma", why dost thou yet exist?

‘Social stigma  is the disapproval of, or   discrimination   against, a person based on apprehensible social characteristics the purpose of which is to distinguish them from other members of a society. Social stigmas are commonly related to  culture ,  gender ,  race , intelligence, sexual preference and health. ’ As Plato wrote in  The Laws , a dialogue on the ethics of government, ‘if anyone is caught committing sacrilege, if he be a slave or a stranger, let his offence be written on his face and his hands’. The word ‘Stigma’ finds its origins in a Greek word stig -, meaning to prick or to puncture, that means, a type of marking or a tattoo . Something that was cut or burned into the skin of criminals, slaves, or traitors in order to visibly identify them as morally polluted persons, in medieval times and even before. These individuals were to be avoided particularly in public places. Stigma may also be described as a label to ...

Sex Ed and its need to be included in the school curriculum.

I recall an interesting conversation I had a few months ago, on board the train, with an Italian teacher. We talked about the challenges that him and I faced in the classrooms. Amidst the imprudent reliance on the internet, extensive video gaming, excessive use of smartphones in classroom; there was one thing that left me aghast and speechless.  He mentioned that one of his student was in a juvenile rehabilitation centre, for attempted murder. I was shocked, beyond my wits. What follows, will both amuse and disturb you. The kid and his girlfriend were spending the night together. At that tender age, you're overwhelmed with a myriad of emotions. You feel excitement, nervousness, trying to seek intimacy. Too young, too silly to know what and how. To avoid being shamed by friends and family, you seek the help of the internet for guidance.  This was exactly what the kid did. Little knowing about the world of fetishes that exist on the internet, he thought that was the ...
