Happiness Is A Four Legged Word :)

[ This post is specially dedicated to My Sister-In-Law, did I say in law? Nope.. she is my sister :) Shiraaji Dee , My Best Friend cum Sister of 20 years, Neeti, My Soul Sister, Anshika ]

Hello world !

As I write today’s blogpost, I am filled with a multitude of emotions and I know all those who read this and know me closely will be surprised as hell.

Let me start this blogpost with a quote from Marley & Me :

“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

I think the subject of this post would be clear to you by now :)

Now, didn’t I mention it to you that those who know me would be surprised to see that I am the author to this?

Why surprised?

For the simple reason that I hated dogs. I was shit scared of them. Maybe I was cynophobic! I couldn’t be at ease if there were a dog around me, infact I could not survive with a dog in the same room! Whenever a dog would come near and smell my toes, I had this irrational fear in my head that it will chew my toes off !
[ weird, I know. But fear knows no logic]
However, there was one mysterious thing with this fear of mine.
I was never afraid of street dogs. Only, pet dogs scared me ! :P
You know! Street dogs would mind their own business whereas, pet dogs would be all jumpy and excited and barking and you know the story.

I am yet to be comfortable around jumpy dogs.. but, I believe I will come to terms with it as well.
Now that the fear of dogs has gone and the love for them has taken it’s place. Soon, the little bit of awkwardness or hesitation that I have yet left in me will fade away too!
However, dealing with the Ferocious one is a different ball game!

My friends and family were very well acquainted with my fear of dogs. My best friend Neeti, is a dog lover. Whenever I went to her home , Softy was made to run away here and there and not come near me till I was well settled. [ I am sorry softy :* ]
My father is a dog lover. Whereas, my mother is crazy scared of them and maybe that’s the reason why I, from my childhood developed a fear of dogs. Simply because, a child stays mostly with the mother in his/her growing days. I am a single child. Close to both my parents however, I always copied my father. You know how daughters are! But whenever we’d go to visit someone and there was  dog at their place. My mother would immediately pull me back or that her being scared : scared me too! So, even if I wasn’t scared. Her reaction had an impact on me. This is something I’ve come to a conclusion to, now.
Science has discovered that the fears a parent experiences can be passed down to their children. The results of experiments with mice suggest that fallout from a person's traumatic experiences may extend through generations.

One just can’t go from a Dog hater to a Dog Lover. There must be some instincts. Some genes he/she had in him/her which show their characteristics once they are left on their own to interact with the environment or given friendly conditions/ friendly dogs maybe ;) :P sometimes, it can be a matter of conditioning as well :D

Now here is a little story…
So, this marriage alliance came up for me. We started chatting up and the usual, then one day I came to know that they have a dog at home! I was like : O.O
I don’t think I can survive with a dog under one roof, I said to myself. I told my father, “Papa, they have a dog at home! :O”
My father asked me, “ should I tell them that my daughter is not interested. No more.”
And, I was like : -_-
Sure as hell I was interested. But, love me-love my dog theory was unrealistic to me. When Shashaank [ you all know him by now ] and Shiraaji Dee [ the cutest & the best sister-in-law ever! ] told me, “ kuch nahin karta yeh! Seedha sa toh hai” I was like –
Ummm… don’t all dog owners say that? But, for those who are scared. They are scared! Plainly scared.

I did get married ! and today I live with a Dog in the same house under the same roof, I pet him, play with him, kiss him on his forehead, watch him sleep, feed him out of my hands, try to understand his language pretty well, give him treats and even help Shashaank bathe him.
Such is the love for a dog.

Once it has grown on you, you can never grow out of it :)

This wallpaper below seems to be true, the more I come to know of Dogs :)

Dogs are faithful and always by your side.

Dogs sense when you’re not well / sick , when you’re feeling lonely or upset.

For Dogs, you’re their world. They miss you when you’re gone! And they jump at you as soon as you are back !

Dogs have the purest form of  heart!

Dogs celebrate your festivals to your weddings!

Dogs love it when you talk to them click pictures with them!

Dogs love it when you take them out and show them the world!

Dogs protect you from what/whom they think can harm you!

Dogs love you without reason !

And, after all this when they are on their last journey home, they want us to be there with them! And, there arises no question for them wanting you to miss them, because you can never forget them.

They are here for merely 10-12 years, maximum 15..and, then they are gone up above. Till the time they are here, make the most of it! You would terribly miss them when they're gone!

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”

Thank God, I have come to this stage of life where, well within time, i discovered how amazing a Dog's love can be ! :)

I firmly believe that this world would be a much better place if we learnt things from Dogs and not only just taught them stuff. They can save the world!

Do watch this Song, not only because it is The Swedish House Mafia, watch it because you love Dogs :*

P.S. If you really do love your dog & you liked this post, please do share it !

Feminism & its origins

Writing on an issue like this, I was really skeptical; not knowing how it would be perceived. But I felt that it is high time that we get into the depths of this frequently used term, ‘Feminism’. To understand any movement, it is only smart to get to know why and how it came into existence Let’s acknowledge the fact that from ages the fibers of patriarchy have been woven into the fabric of human consciousness and consciously or unconsciously we all fell prey to it. It was and sometimes is, male dominated, identified and centered. It got so deep rooted that even the most basic of rights were not made available to women and they were okay with not having the same. The list of some of those might shock you. It took a century for women to be able to hold property on the same terms as men, serve on a jury, to cast votes, apply for bank loan, become an accountant or a lawyer, report marital rape, get equal pay (which still is a long way from equal!), get a safe abortion or bu...

"O Stigma", why dost thou yet exist?

‘Social stigma  is the disapproval of, or   discrimination   against, a person based on apprehensible social characteristics the purpose of which is to distinguish them from other members of a society. Social stigmas are commonly related to  culture ,  gender ,  race , intelligence, sexual preference and health. ’ As Plato wrote in  The Laws , a dialogue on the ethics of government, ‘if anyone is caught committing sacrilege, if he be a slave or a stranger, let his offence be written on his face and his hands’. The word ‘Stigma’ finds its origins in a Greek word stig -, meaning to prick or to puncture, that means, a type of marking or a tattoo . Something that was cut or burned into the skin of criminals, slaves, or traitors in order to visibly identify them as morally polluted persons, in medieval times and even before. These individuals were to be avoided particularly in public places. Stigma may also be described as a label to ...

Sex Ed and its need to be included in the school curriculum.

I recall an interesting conversation I had a few months ago, on board the train, with an Italian teacher. We talked about the challenges that him and I faced in the classrooms. Amidst the imprudent reliance on the internet, extensive video gaming, excessive use of smartphones in classroom; there was one thing that left me aghast and speechless.  He mentioned that one of his student was in a juvenile rehabilitation centre, for attempted murder. I was shocked, beyond my wits. What follows, will both amuse and disturb you. The kid and his girlfriend were spending the night together. At that tender age, you're overwhelmed with a myriad of emotions. You feel excitement, nervousness, trying to seek intimacy. Too young, too silly to know what and how. To avoid being shamed by friends and family, you seek the help of the internet for guidance.  This was exactly what the kid did. Little knowing about the world of fetishes that exist on the internet, he thought that was the ...
