Why, ' Not So Feminist' ?

Okay, so let me be gracious enough to first explain as to why I have named my blog as “Not So Feminist”. Not that I owe an explanation or that I feel the need to justify myself. I do this to just..maybe pacify all those who would be like.. duh!? Ain’t she a woman..? then, why does her blog say.. Not So Feminist!?

P.S. [ also, this first post of my blog sends a rational message out there to all the female readers who come across this article. ]

Yes, I am a woman.  I love being one. In fact, we all should cherish womanhood.

I’d fight for our rights. I’d be a support to my husband and my family. Whenever I have kids, I think I’d be a good enough Mom too. I’d do household chores happily, be dressed like a homeless drug addict , then come evening and I’d be dressed immaculately for an outing. I’d be a mentor to younger girls around me. I’d be a patient listening ear to the elderly whom I meet. I’d shop to my heart’s content. Eat a little too much and complain that I’m gaining weight. I’d never have enough of clothes – accessories – shoes, I love being photographed, I’d even bat my eyelids at my husband and go like.. ‘pleaseeeeee!’ when I need his help in the kitchen or to get a household chore done – he finds it cute by the way! ( haha.. just saying.. :P  baby, whenever you read this.. just know that I do respect the experience you have as far culinary skills are concerned and your pearls of wisdom and, I’m blessed to have you there for me and with me. )
so, you see.. I’m not different to you. I am pretty much a woman inside out. In traits and habits. In actions and words.

Then where does the difference lie?

It lies right here. In the head. The way I, and others like me, think. Lets get to know what this much talked of Feminism is, And, why should you be a ‘Not So Feminist’ too!

What Is Feminism?
The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
Okay!
But, is it the way we see it even today? Or, have we gone a bit too far with this concept of feminism?
I think we have. We have lost the essence of it. We have now started using this word as an excuse for every silly thing we did in the past, we do in the present and we would do in near future.  We have the breached the sanctity of Feminism.

The much talked about #VogueEmpower Video is by far, the best example of; how we would define senseless and baseless feminism as. This depiction of empowerment is the bashing of the real concept of feminism. Feminism as an ideology has become so misconstrued that women thing they can hide behind it’s guise for all decisions in their life.. using it as a scapegoat.
Why would men be judged if they behave in a certain way or do certain things.. and, women be respected for the same ? this hypocrisy shall not be supported.
Feminism is to lend a hand to the women that are oppressed and have no voice. Feminism doesn’t mean sleeping around before marriage, lusting and not loving, having an extra marital affair. Truly empowered women do not glorify irresponsible choices that have detrimental consequences, truly empowered women try to make society better by contributing towards it. Feminism means supporting fellow females and not bitching about them, pull them down and indulge in petty gossips. Feminism doesn’t mean asking men to get up from their seats because it is marked as ‘for women’ , and not standing up and offering your seat to some elderly gentleman who comes your way. That’s hypocrisy. Feminism doesn’t mean dressing up in a lady like manner and behaving in a ‘woman thy name is vanity’ fashion.  Feminism in the true sense may be different for each one of us. But, essentially it is to not let our inner free spirit die, also help save some other woman’s spirit and bring it back to life in techno-colour.

Whatever choice you make affects the life of people around you. As long as you wish to do something that is constructive, you should. You are a free spirited woman. Follow your heart..  Be good and do good. But, where the mere base of your existence is questionable.. the ethics, morals, the values are at stake..  I’m afraid.. It’s time for a reality check.

Ladies, you are not an island. Let us all be fair and realize that we may progress into a modern nation but are roots are way deeper and older than that. It is something I appreciate , personally. We still have *this is right – this is wrong* left in us.
We have been using the term MCP since ages, but now I feel there is this huge segment of society which is developing an attitude which could be best termed as an FCP. Fanaticism in any form, in anything is dangerous and detrimental to the cause for which you became a zealous believer or a fanatic. We need to keep neutral. We need to use that gray thing inside our heads , which God gave to us to put to good use. Always reason out things from a neutral point of view.

Remember, Feminism talks of equality of the sexes. It doesn’t say who has an upper edge. Both Man and Woman have been created equal in the eyes of God and that is also being accepted by the society. That’s exactly why I say : be coherent , judicious and neutral. Be proud of the fact that you are born as a female, but don’t obsess over it.
An empowered female is not selfish. She is compassionate. An empowered female is not narcissistic. She is a rational human being.

  1. Your article brings home some very rational points. Kudos!
I largely agree on the fact that feminism is being used in a very irrational way lately.. It has become more like female chauvinism!

We went to an All Girls School and we turned out to be perfectly normal !

There has always been a battle between two groups, when we were in school. No, it’s not what you think.  I am not referring to Science vs. Commerce or Blue House vs. Green House. I am talking about the students who study at the All Girls/ All Boys School vs. those who studied in a  Co-Ed school. The other battles that I listed above, come to a standstill once we are out of the boundaries of the school. This battle however, gets meaner as we grow in age. Simply because, we all judge the other with our own set of thinking. I am a product of an All Girls School and I turned out to be perfectly normal. And, so have all the other girls I know of. We have often always been told, ‘ You are very different to what we thought you would be like’ or, ‘All girls school pass outs are weird : You however, are an exception’ . Duh! You are all products of your caged brains, who can’t think beyond the bars of that nasty little thing they live in. The problem today lies with...

"O Stigma", why dost thou yet exist?

‘Social stigma  is the disapproval of, or   discrimination   against, a person based on apprehensible social characteristics the purpose of which is to distinguish them from other members of a society. Social stigmas are commonly related to  culture ,  gender ,  race , intelligence, sexual preference and health. ’ As Plato wrote in  The Laws , a dialogue on the ethics of government, ‘if anyone is caught committing sacrilege, if he be a slave or a stranger, let his offence be written on his face and his hands’. The word ‘Stigma’ finds its origins in a Greek word stig -, meaning to prick or to puncture, that means, a type of marking or a tattoo . Something that was cut or burned into the skin of criminals, slaves, or traitors in order to visibly identify them as morally polluted persons, in medieval times and even before. These individuals were to be avoided particularly in public places. Stigma may also be described as a label to ...

Aren't Men Just Women with an extra pair?

Men. Our partners, our friends, our role models. They love us, support us, make us what we are. They inspire us, motivate us, pamper us the way we deserve. They spoil us, surprise us, arouse us like no other. Yet…what about the times when they leave the jars open and slab dirty right after experimenting in the kitchen, just when you had spent an hour cleaning it in the morning? What about the times when you find the dirty laundry right next to the laundry bag and not inside it? Why can't men ever seem to find anything on their own? Or anything, unless it were kept in an untidy heap or in a random stack? What about the times when he would just sit there, procrastinating! Hahhahaahha.. there are times when admit it, the most loving man in your life gets onto your nerves and it goes the other way too. Sometimes, you too will drive him crazy! And that’s how weird this relationship between Mars and Venus is. This mutual weirdness is what you call as love ...
